Indications

In simple terms, musculoskeletal transplantation is used when there is a hole to be filled. That hole can be large or small, and in bone, articular cartilage (gristle), or soft tissue. Examples of such situations would include:

Bone tumours

Articular cartilage defects

  • Post-fracture
  • Osteochondritis dissecans (OCD)

Knee ligament reconstruction

  • Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL)
  • Posterior cruciate ligament (PCL)
  • Medial collateral ligament (MCL)
  • Lateral collateral ligament (LCL)
  • Extensor mechanism (patellar and/or quadriceps tendons)

Spinal fusion and/or correction of spinal deformity (scoliosis)

Revision joint replacement

Arthrodesis (fusion) of joints

Fracture non-union
